hi I’m Katie Jones and in this video we will be talking about 5 biblical business principles that you can learn from the book of Proverbs as a Christian entrepreneur I looked at the Bible to find out all that it has to say about how to operate a business I have found that there are a lot of really great biblical business principles found in the Bible that we can easily apply to our work as entrepreneurs when we apply these essential principles to our business we know that we are honoring God and bringing glory to him through our work there are so many great business principles that can be found throughout the Bible but today we’ll look at five that we can find specifically in the book of Proverbs alone okay biblical business principle number one is to be diligent and not lazy throughout the book of Proverbs we see the importance of hard work emphasized we are taught that we need to be diligent in what we do and not be lazy when it comes to our work now there are two Bible verses that I want to point out where we can find these principles displayed and that is in proverbs 10:4 which says lazy hands make for poverty but diligent hands bring wealth and the second Bible verse is in Proverbs 31 27 where it says she watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness these two Bible verses show us that we need to care about how we approach our work and by doing hard work and not being lazy we’re able to love and serve others so well and not only that but hard work provides success within our businesses and we can see in proverbs 31 where the Bible is talking about the wife of noble character that she is not a lazy woman she cares about her work and puts effort into it in order to see success business principle number two is to practice humility humility is one of the leading characteristics that we find throughout the Bible it’s continuously telling us that as followers of Christ we are to be humble and that includes our daily lives as well as how we approach our work so the two places in Proverbs that I picked to show the importance of humility within our business is proverbs 16:18 which says pride goes before destruction a haughty spirit before a fall and Bible verse number two is proverbs 11 12 where it says when pride comes then comes disgrace but with humility comes wisdom humility causes us to stop and listen to those around us to hear their concerns and then address their problems whether those people are our employees our customers our clients investors it doesn’t matter we need to be listening and addressing the concerns of all of those around us proverbs 11 12 teaches us that when we let our pride get in the way it only causes disgrace and destruction so if you make a mistake within your business own up to it and make it right so that those around you aren’t suffering from different mistakes that you’ve made practicing humility will eventually lead to wisdom which will then lead to greater success within your business biblical business principle number three is to be a go giver and not a go getter Society is repeatedly telling us to be a go getter to get out there and to just take what we think we deserve however the Bible teaches us something very opposite it teaches us that we need to be go givers being a go giver means being generous with our time our money and our resources and the Bible teaches us that when we are generous we will prosper we see this in proverbs 11:25 where it says a generous person will prosper whoever refreshes others will be refreshed in order to change your mindset from being a go-getter to a go Giver stop asking yourself what’s in it for me instead try to provide more value to those around you than what you’re receiving if you want to learn more about being a go Giver I highly recommend the book the go Giver it’s not necessarily a faith-based book though I feel like the principles in it are very true to biblical business principles that we’re learning here and I’ll have a link to that book in the notes below cool business principle number four is to make money honestly now this biblical business principle may seem pretty obvious to most of us who have a moral conscience however proverbs mentions dealing with money dishonestly a couple different times so I felt like it was really important to add to this list of biblical business principles proverbs 16 8 says better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice proverbs 13 11 says dishonest money dwindles away but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow I believe that God would rather you have little success in your business but remain faithful to him then have you cut corners in order to make great revenue and the last biblical business principle that I want to share with you is to be bold becoming an entrepreneur and starting your own business is a huge endeavor and God wants us to be bold in all areas of our life and especially through our businesses proverbs 28 1 says the wicked flee when no one pursues but the righteous are bold as a lion as Christians we are called to be set apart we are called to be bold and excellent at what we do so being bold in our business could mean creating the best product out there that anyone’s ever seen in that industry or providing amazing service like no other I mean seeing our business place as our mission field and going and showing the love of Christ to others through our amazing services and products our bonus shows that we trust in God with our business and when we come across roadblocks or failures we continue to hold strong to the promise that our hope is not in the world our hope is in Christ now to wrap things up I want to end with a Bible verse from Jeremiah it’s Jeremiah 29:11 and it says for I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you a hope and a future according to this Bible verse God wants us to prosper however he wants us to bring him along for the ride this means committing our plans to him like it says in proverbs 16:3 and remember that our success is not up to us we can rest easy and have peace knowing that our success is solely in the hands of God so as I mentioned before these are not the only business principles that you can find throughout the Bible I’d love to know the things that you have learned about your business by reading the Bible let me know in the comments below if you found any other really great principles that we can apply to our businesses as entrepreneurs hey thanks so much for checking out this video if you enjoyed it give it a like leave a comment down below and subscribe to my channel that way I know that you’re enjoying the content
